How does it work? The most significant thing to realize about analogue is that any information lost is lost forever; you can NEVER get it back.
Just how easy it is to lose information? Well, the wiggles in the groove are actually smaller than the wavelength of light. Diamond stylii are more sensitive than lasers which are clumsy. It’s that easy. So tracing a groove with a laser, you’ve already lost precious information.
The term “Groove Grinder” is really quite apt. As the stylus traces the groove, it is accelerating at up to 20,000g. Clearly these are massive pressures pummelling into the vinyl.
Retrieving the signal is a really delicate task. The platter is only a couple of millimetres below the stylus and must be considered part of the loop for vibrations travelling away from the record. Its role, therefore is very important.
With a conventional incorrect platter or mat (alloy, glass, felt and to a lesser lesser degree, acrylic) these pressures remain in the record, bouncing around and muddling up the sound. With a well-designed platter, however, pressure waves are tricked into thinking that they are in a much thicker record and so have further to travel before getting back to the stylus.
Achroplat II has a higher inertia so that it us a direct platter replacement for Regas Ambers, Systemdecks and more.
Achroplat II is a platter and mat in one and so does not need a mat.
Achroplat’s improvements are instantaneous.
Bettering all previous platters, even Pink Triangle’s original acrylic, Achroplat’s reputation keeps growing because it really works. So, now you know.
* Turntable not included
To cut a long story short Dave owned four different Rega decks and had tried just about every upgrade available for the Rega. “I am happy to report that your Achroplat is one of the best upgrades that I have ever had the pleasure of hearing… I had to be sure, before I spoke too soon. This is why it has been so long.”
How could we possibly add to that? Try it for yourself.
